After much deliberation and serious contemplation (a few craft beers and a quick recon by Colin on the way back from Grahamstown), we have decided our next challenge is going to be “Sea to Sani”. The plan is to cycle from the coast to Sani Pass and up, hopefully over 4 days starting 9 August 2015. We will be doing the reverse of the Sani2C stage race (gaining altitude rather than going down the escarpment) and we will be doing it without lightweight, carbon fibre, full suspension, 29ers as we will be using our faithful Qhubeka Buffalo bicycles. Although much shorter in our duration than our 9 Peaks Tour, it will not necessarily be easier as we have some serious climbing to do on our 25kg singlespeed bikes. We start at sea level and will need to ascend to the summit of Sani Pass at 2876m. 1300m-0dd of climbing will be done on the final day. The rules will be unchanged for this mini-trip – we will be sticking to our “back to basics” approach and coping by quoting ludicrous amounts of Monty Python.
Looking forward to sharing this next adventure with you!
