Rode 95 km today at 16.7 kph. That might sound a touch slow but the route ran through the dirt roads, hills and valleys of Parys and the Vredefort Dome. No walkies but some big ups and downs.
Even a small shower with 5 ks to go, luxury!
Day 6 ( 5 actually ) is complete. 95 km at 16.7 kph into a murderous challenging headwind.
The ride out of Parys was fantastic, through magnificent hills and dales. After 65 ks I arrived at the beautifully named Fochville. A poster on a lamp post advertised a forthcoming local Rugby match where the half time entertainment would be provided by the Local Fochville Cheerleader team. For those that can’t guess, they are called ” The Fochies”. Is it me, or am I getting old, but I am not sure whether I would like my daughter to join the team.
Before we left Parys I made a batch of tomato flavoured flatbreads ( see pic ) of which I made two in heart shapes for my support team ( There is another story hidden in there ). Scrumptious ( the bread and the support team ), one with cheese, one with apricot jam and one with ( oops, don’t go there! )
Pic 2 is Dave. I met him pushing a trolley with all his camping gear from Mussina to Robertson in the Cape. I thought I was mad with a 28 kg bike and kit, his was a mighty 80kg without brakes. Apparently great fun on the downhills. Good luck Dave, you are a man I admire.
The other pic today is #ColinMustFall again cos I forgot a story. There are two very big positives of falling in the water at the end of a long hot ride.
1) I don’t need a shower tonight
2) My clothes are all nicely washed for the next day
Tomorrow the real 947. Start time 08h43 so will be hot. Bring it on!
Tonight camping with Bianca at the start venue outside a Craft Beer Bar. This could be dangerous!
